Traveling with one child is an adventure. Traveling with two? Well, this will be our very first time flying with both our daughter (who has ADHD) and our baby boy, and I’m feeling all the emotions. 😅
Because we live abroad, long-haul flights (11+ hours with stopovers) are just part of our lives. Over time, I’ve learned what works with our daughter, including Sensory-Friendly Travel Essentials for Kids with Hidden Disabilities. But adding a baby into the mix is a whole new level of preparation.
That’s why I’ve put together this comprehensive guide of baby travel essentials. The items that truly make a difference in the air and at your destination. These aren’t just “nice to haves”; they’re the tools that keep everyone calmer, cleaner, and a little bit saner.
Baby Travel Essentials You Don’t Want to Forget
Feeding & Snacks
Travel Steriliser – This microwavable pouch allows you to sterilise any bottles and takes up almost no packing space

Travel Bottle Brush & Drying Rack – For hotel rooms or longer trips.

Rapid Cool Water Cooler – Cools boiled water for bottles in minutes.

Baby Bottles (enough for the journey) – Pack extra so you don’t need to wash in-flight. These MAM bottles are also self-sterilising so no need to pack extra sterilising bits!

Formula & Snack Dispensers – Pre-measured and ready to go.

Food Pouches & Baby Snacks – Easy, no-mess feeding on the go.

Spill-Proof Sippy Cup – Hydration without the spills.

Bibs – Disposable or wipe-clean save a ton of laundry.

Silicone Placemats – Great for airport food courts or airplane trays. They roll up and take up minimal space when packing

Comfort & Sleep
Comfort Toy or Blanket – Familiar smells help babies settle.

Sleepsuit or Sleepsack – Keeps baby warm on chilly flights.

White Noise Machine or App – Blocks out airplane chaos.

Baby Carrier / Sling – Hands-free comfort and easier boarding.

Camp Cot or Portable Baby Bed – Ideal for long stays or overnight flights (check airline rules).

Health & Hygiene
Changing Mat – Compact and wipeable for quick changes.

Disposable Changing Pads – A lifesaver for airplane bathrooms.

Wet Bag – For messy or wet clothes until you can wash.

Disinfecting Wipes & Alcohol-Free Baby Wipes – For surfaces and sticky hands.

Spare Pacifiers + Travel Cases – Always have backups handy and don’t forget the straps! These are also great to help with ear discomfort during take off and landing

Teethers (if needed) – Comfort for sore gums mid-flight.

Play & Entertainment
Selection of New Books – Novelty keeps little ones interested.

Toy Straps – Prevent constant dropping (and disinfecting).

Suction Toys for Windows/Trays – Stick-on fun to keep them engaged.

Travel Gear
3-in-1 Travel System – Compact, gate-checkable, ideal for layovers, and the seat comfortably converts into a bassinet making naps on the go a breeze!

Baby Travel Backpack/Diaper Bag – Organised compartments for all the chaos.

Traveling with a baby for the first time can feel overwhelming, but preparation is everything. With the right essentials, you’ll be ready for the messes, the meltdowns, and (hopefully) a few naps in between.
This will be our first flight with two kids, so I’ll be putting all of these items — plus my tried-and-true sensory travel essentials for kids with hidden disabilities — into action.

Here’s to calmer skies and happy travels 💛
